The Europa Report is a gripping film by director Sebastián Cordero about a crew of six that travels to Europa to search for life on an ice and water covered moon orbiting Jupiter. It is a terrifying and scientifically immersive exploration into a cosmic world where wonder and fear can either cripple you or liberate you. The film’s tension plays like holding your breath before you let go of the railing and yet knowing you have to let go. The fact that this is an indie film shot over 19 days in Brooklyn only makes it more impressive. Reminiscent of 2001 Space Odyssey and wholeheartedly rooted in science rather than eye candy.
It’ll make you contemplate your childhood desire to go to space a little more honestly.
