Obey; A Film

by Rachel Gertz

WARNING: Don’t watch this if you were planning on having a blissfully ignorant day. It is not for the optimistic.

The film, Obey, is based on ideas from the book Death of the Liberal Class by journalist and author Chris Hedges. In fifty-one minutes, you basically find out that because our corporate world has worked it’s way so diligently inside the constructs we call government (that body of power we feel compelled to obey), things like our rights to water and food, our rights to not be tortured, our rights to freedom and choice will all die horrible deaths. Then the planet will just be mined for any last drop of wealth while we go down in a hopeless blaze of shame. A truly uplifting film. But, I mean, this is a worst case scenario, right?

“[This film] charts the rise of the Corporate State, and examines the future of obedience in a world of unfettered capitalism, globalisation, staggering inequality and environmental change” —Temujin Doran

It’s really good. You should watch it.
