“The World in 2030” by Dr. Michio Kaku

by Travis Gertz

This video solidifies why I should stick to reading science news headlines and forget about mainstream news all together.

You want hope? You want to feel good about where we are moving as a species? You want to be a little freaked out? Watch this hour long adventure in scientific evolution by physicist Dr. Michio Kaku. Four years has passed, and every one of Dr. Kaku’s predictions have become our cosy reality. This makes me happy.

“When people ask about 1984, I had a chance to go back and read [the book]…I realized something. The internet could have been a device like what happened in 1984. A device that monitors everything, knows everything. However, an event happened, and that was: the Soviet Union broke up. The internet was a war fighting machine, secret for the most part, devised by military scientists, used by physicists like myself. But after the breakup of the Soviet Union, that National Science Foundation did something rather momentous. They gave it away for free…Today it is impossible to recreate 1984 because the internet is everywhere. If the president of the United States were to try to ban the internet, the reaction would be laughter. People would just laugh at him. It’s unstoppable. So I think 1984 is not possible. However there was another book written around that time. That other book was called Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. That’s a book we really do have to worry about because in that book (that book was set 600 years in the future) in that book they have cloning, in that book they have drugs everywhere, in that book they have the stratification of the human species, in that book, well, we have about 80% of that book today. Forget 600 years in the future. Welcome to the Brave New World.” —Dr. Michio Kaku

Two amazing books on the subject that you should absolutely read.
